Salary Figures

Earnings in design can vary widely based on the employer, years of experience and level of responsibility in the organization. Senior designers, who supervise junior staff or have decision-making responsibilities generally, earn better salaries than entry level designers. Design directors, creative heads of design firms or in-house corporate design departments, earn the highest salaries among other design jobs. Freelancers and contractual designers earn salaries depending upon their reputation and the nature of the contract.

According to the US Department of Labor graphic designers can earn salaries in the range of $23,220 at the lower end on an average and $65,940 median at the higher end. Income of graphic designers varies as per their levels of responsibility. While at entry level the median salary is $32,000 as a creative head the average salary goes up to $90,000. Owners or principals of design firms earn $100,000 on an average per annum.
